Re-Slotting a Stripped Screw
We’ve all experienced the frustration of trying to extract a stripped screw—the more pressure and torque you exert the worse it gets, degrading the screw head and making it increasingly difficult to remove. Fortunately, there’s an easy fix, one also that repairs the screw in the process. With a Dremel, rotary tool, EZ Lock Mandrel and EZ Lock Cut-off Wheel, you can create a new slot in the screw head, so you can remove it with a standard-tip screwdriver.

Step 1
Insert the EZ Lock Mandrel and EZ Lock Cut-off Wheel into the rotary tool. The EZ Lock system features a one-piece design that eliminates the need for a screw to attach the cutting wheel and mandrel.
-
Step 2
Wearing goggles or other eye protection, place the edge of the cutting wheel into the screw head, and turn on the rotary tool. Cut a new slot in the screw head about 1/8 inch deep.
-
Step 3
Now you can remove the screw with an appropriately sized standard-tip screwdriver.
